Siegel football is well represented on the 2017 Region 3-6A All Region Team. Siegel RB Leland Wilhoitte and OT Maxwell Iyama earned superlative honors being named a the Region Running Back of the Year and Offensive Lineman of the Year respectively.
Making the All Region Team are DE/TE Joseph Anderson, WR Caleb Bull, QB Brendan Crowell, C Jacob Frye, LB/TE Freddie Owens, and G Wesley Woodard.
Named as All Region Honorable Mention are DL/TE Vic Sims, LB/TE Peyton Swope, and CB/WR Ryan Wilson
All Region Superlatives
Region 3-6A Running Back of the Year: RB Leland Wilhoitte, SR.
Despite missing 2 games, Wilhoitte managed to rush for 1692 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging over 8 yards per carry. Wilhoitte also had 300 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. In addition to averaging nearly 200 yards per game, Wilhoitte also served as a kick returner and punt returner, scoring an additional touchdown on special teams. Wilhoitte’s current GPA this semester is a 3.9.
Region 3-6A Offensive Lineman of the Year: T Maxwell Iyama, SR.
Iyama anchored an offensive line that rushed for 226 yards per game and averaged over 6.5 yards per carry. Iyama was a two year starter at left tackle. Iyama will enroll early at South Carolina where he will play offensive line.
All Region Team
DE/TE Joseph Anderson, JR.
In nine games, Anderson accumulated nine sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and 85 total tackles. According to ESPN, Anderson is ranked as the number one defensive end recruit in Tennessee and the eighth best in the country. Anderson has received scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Tennessee, among others.
WR Caleb Bull, SR.
Despite missing the first half of the season with a broken collarbone, Bull returned to emerge as one of the best receivers in the Midstate. In just five games, Bull amassed 463 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns on 28 receptions. Bull has a 3.0 GPA.
QB Brenden Crowell, SR.
In 9 games, Crowell threw for 1346 yards and 14 touchdowns to 8 different receivers. In total, Crowell completed a pass to 16 different receivers on the year. Crowell has received a scholarship offer from Southeast Missouri State University. Crowell has a current semester GPA of 3.5.
C Jacob Frye, SR.
Frye served as both center and long snapper for Siegel. Frye’s leadership along the offensive line was crucial to the team’s success. Frye has received scholarship offers from Southeast Missouri State University and Virginia Military Institute. Frye scored a 25 on the ACT and has a cumulative 3.83 GPA. His semester GPA is a 4.0.
LB/TE Freddie Owens, SR.
On the offensive side of the ball, Owens was a force serving as the team’s third leading receiver and third leading rusher. Defensively, Owens started at inside linebacker where he served as the team’s leading tackler, as well as providing leadership and intensity on a game to game basis. Owen’s current semester GPA is a 3.29.
G Wesley Woodard, SR.
Along with Iyama, Woodard, a three year starter at guard, anchored the left side of Siegel’s offensive line. The team averaged 226 yards rushing behind Woodard. Woodard also played some at fullback. Woodard currently has a cumulative 3.64 GPA, and a 3.71 semester GPA.
