This week your Siegel Stars wrestling team saw action in four dual meets, as well as an individual tournament at Tullahoma High School. The Stars began competition on Tuesday at Centennial against the Cougars, and the Brentwood Bruins. The stars came up short against both Region 7 powerhouses, but they learned what areas they needed to improve upon.
On Thursday, the Stars corrected their mistakes, and went 2-0 at home against Coffee County and Franklin County; beating both opponents by a combined score of 102-54. Senior, Michael Moultry (160lbs) provided the Stars with a spark; returning to the mat for the first time this season after recovering from an injury at last year’s State Championship. This extra motivation helped lead the stars to victory, with 7 individuals posting perfect records on the night.
On Saturday the Stars travelled to Tullahoma for the Garner-Dyer Invitational, where they competed with 27 other teams. The Lady Stars brought home two medals; Kourtney Brinkley (112lbs) finished 2nd and Miranda Lawler (140lbs) 4th. For the boys team, Senior Joshua Rodella (126lbs) earned a 4th place finish.
This week we also saw several wrestlers make moves in Siegel Record books. Christian Salter (182lbs) and Michael Moultry broke the career pin record, and are tied with 74 pins each. Moultry also moved into 10th place all time for reversals; tied with Matthew Gray (170lbs). Joshua Rodella entered the top 15 for career takedowns (57) and escapes (37).
Next week, the stars will travel to #8 Summit on Thursday. Before wrestling at the Bradley Imitational on Friday and Saturday.
