The Girls Cross Country team surprised the field of runners as they claimed the 2018 Region 4 Cross Country Championship. Led by Ella Phillips (18:58.55) third place finish, the Lady Stars finished with three runners in the top ten. Phillips was followed follow by Marilyn McCarthy (19:39.12) in fourth place and Sara Wilkerson (20:59.98) in tenth place. Kyra Hayes (21:15.84) had a strong finish and crossed the line in 13th place followed by Ashlee Schafer (21:19.66) in 22nd, Olivia Barksdale (23:33.01) in 35th, and Itcell Martinez (25:54.39) in 40th.
With the pressure of returning to the TSSAA State meet to defend their State title, the Boys Cross Country team finished as expected, in first place. Canaan Anderson (16:18.20) led the charge for the Stars and finished in a strong second place. Siegel finished in 4 of the top eight spots, taking second, third, fourth and eight places. Anderson was followed across the finish line by Tucker Moss ( 16:25.80) in 3rd, Seth Robinson (16:29.29) in 4th, and Ben Tickle (16:52.38) in 8th, Dylan Bennett (17:14.65) in 12th, Emilio Vernon (17:19.12) in 14th, and Caleb Marks in 26th.
Both the Girls and Boys teams qualify for the TSSAA State meet that will be help at Percy Warner Park next Saturday November 3.
