Multiple Teams · Siegel Scholar Athletes of the Month – May 2019

Congratulations to Marilyn McCarthy and Kyle Chandler on being named Siegel’s Scholar Athletes of the Month for May 2019.

Marilyn is a Sophomore on the Track and Cross Country teams.  She will be competing in the TSSAA Spring Fling State Championships next week in the 4×800 relay and the 3200 meter race.  She is driven, competitive, and courteous.   Marilyn has a 4.0 GPA.

Kyle is a Senior on the Golf and Tennis teams.  He went to the State DECA Competition and competed in HR Management. He is a considerate, humble, and Kind.  Kyle has a 3.6 GPA.

Athletic Accomplishments: All state for cross country freshman year placing 14th at state; all state for track freshman year placing 7th in the 1600 with a 5:13; all state indoor track sophomore year for two mile placing 6th with an 11:07 Constantly moving up the ranks of my team and being able to enjoy the sport more and more.
Academic Accomplishments: Maintaining my 4.0 GPA; receiving the latin 1 award freshman year Maintain above a 3.5 GPA
Surpassed district and went to Deca state for HR management

Whose Your Toughest Opponent: Landry Wilcox from Cookeville. I have competed against her since middle school and our times have improved together. We support each other when we are not racing against each other however. Nathan Zou from Central
What are you working to improve on?: Becoming a better leader for my team Becoming better at tennis and golf
What inspires you to keep training and competing? My goals for college and my personal goals for times I believe you can always be a better person than you were the day before
Your Best Sports Memory My freshman year when the girls team got 4th in the state, I made all state, and the boys won state for cross country. Being able to sit down with some of my teammates as we cracked jokes and made each other laugh.
What are your plans after you graduate from Siegel? Attend a college with a running  scholarship and possibly go into the medical field To take my next life step at Tennessee Tech
Your Favorite Food? Sushi Pizza
Your Favorite Ice Cream? Mint chocolate chip Cookies and cream
Whats on Your Playlist? Mostly pop and hip hop. I love music that has a good beat in the background. Different rap and country songs
Whats the Most Embarrassing Thing on Your Playlist? Old Niki Minaj. I’ll still listen to her Pinkprint album from 2014 Travis Scott – Sicko Mode
If You had one wish, what would it be? To have my grandmother see who I have grown to be. All disease in the world to go away
What most people don’t know about you? My freshman year was one of my hardest. I was a victim of bullying the first semester because I was shy, but I opened up and let people see me for who I am and it changed me for the better. I am a big roller skater
Your Favorite Class? This year my favorite class is chemistry with Mrs. Miller. She has fun with her students while teaching them at the same time. Stagecraft with Coach Fields
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Australia Hawaii
Your Hero? My sister My sister, she is the greatest combination of my dad and moms traits. My sister has pushed me through so much.
