Girls Varsity Soccer · Katie Smith To Head Girls Soccer Program

Siegel has named Katie Smith as the new girls soccer head coach. Smith replaces Michael McGoffin who resigned last week to focus more time on his personal life.  McGoffin has coached the Lady Stars for the past five seasons. Siegel reached the TSSAA state tournament twice in McGoffin’s five seasons and earned a sectional trip in another. He reached the region four out of five years. Siegel was eliminated in the 7-AAA semifinals this past season. McGoffin’s best season came in 2019 when the Lady Stars went 14-6-2, won the 7-AAA tournament and reached the state tournament

Coach Smith has spent the last four years as McGoffin’s assistant with the Stars.  She takes over a young team next season and is excited to get to work with them.

Smith is a Murfreesboro native graduating from Blackman in 2011. She played club soccer for 10 years with the Murfreesboro Strikers, winning 2 state championships and making and appearance in the nationals.  She was a 4 year starter for her Blackman soccer team earning All District and DNJ Player of the Year honors.

Smith was a member of the Blackman basketball team where she helped her team to 2 state tournament appearances and named All District twice and All Region.  Her high school basketball career earned her a scholarship to Cumberland University in Lebanon Tennessee where she played for 3 years, 2011-2014.  Smith helped the Phoenix reach the NAIA Final Four her sophomore year.  She earned NAIA Player of the Week honors while at Cumberland.

Smith’s coaching career started at Blackman, from 2014-2016, as she was finishing up her degree at Middle Tennessee State University. She coached both soccer and basketball. She helped Blackman win 2 District Championships (2015, 2016), a Region Championship (2015) and a State Championship (2015) in basketball.

Coach Smith has spent the last four years at Siegel teaching Physical Education, coaching girls soccer and girls basketball.
